Mexico - When to Go

Mexico

There are two distinct seasons, dry and wet, which affect most of the country's area, especially along the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. Roughly, the dry season falls between mid-November and May or June, and then the rains start up and carry on through October. Naturally, high season falls within the dry months (January through April), which sees a southern migration of Norte Americanos (both U.S. and Canadian visitors). If your aim is to find the period with the best weather and the fewest tourists, then you should plan on traveling between mid-March and late May or the months of November and December. If you enjoy the rhythms of a tropical rainy season, which, unless there's a hurricane around, are really quite pleasant, with crisp, clear mornings, mid-afternoon showers that often clear for sunset, and showers throughout the night, then June through August are recommended--the heaviest rains usually hit in September and October. August is a decidedly European month in Mexico, with hordes of French, Italians, Germans, and British enjoying their annual month-long vacations. So, whether you like that prospect or not, keep it in mind.
