The climate in Jordan is quite varied. The north of the country is hilly, and in Amman and Jerash you will encounter a climate similar to that of southern Europe, with warm to hot summers and cold winters (as low as 4°- 6°C during the day, with occasional snow). In Petra and Wadi Rum the climate is more similar to that in Egypt. Travel is comfortable at all times except July and August when it is particularly hot.
The best times to visit Jordan are October-December and April-June when it is warm during the day and cool in the evening.
For a month or so before and after the summer dry season, hot, dry air from the desert, drawn by low pressure, produces strong winds from the south or southeast that sometimes reach gale force. The shammal, another wind of some significance, comes from the north or northwest, generally at intervals between June and September.
