Temperatures, skirts, sleeves, awnings and spirits have all been recently raised, making this a wonderful time to be in Vilnius. Not only is exploring the craquelure-maze of Old Town streets a great pleasure in summer, but it’s also a great time to discover that Vilnius is a very green city, with some lovely parks and gardens.

In fact, Vilnius not only has the largest historic Old Town in eastern Europe, but it is the Baltic capital with the highest grass-to-concrete ratio. Even close to Old Town you can wander into the Sereikiškių park and enjoy a walk along the river. Further afield you can enjoy Vingio park, or the gaggle of restaurants and fountains at Belmontas, mentioned on the previous page.

Of course the other popular summertime activity is just sitting around at outdoor cafés and restaurants. There are plenty of them about, but it still can be hard to find a parking spot for your bottom. Don’t be afraid to head into courtyards, as some restaurants have lovely tucked-away seating that is both outdoors and away from the hustle and bustle.
