Panama - Lying between 7 and 10 degrees north of the equator, Panamá is set well within the tropics , and consequently temperatures are constant year-round - around 25°-30°C - and vary only with altitude : the average temperature in the Chiriquí Highlands is about 19°C, but this is the only region in which you are ever likely to feel cold. Humidity is always very high. Rainfall varies markedly between the Pacific and Caribbean sides of the mountain chain that runs the length of the country: on the Pacific side, the annual average is about 1500mm, on the Caribbean, about 2500mm. The best time to visit Panamá is during the dry season between mid-December and April, known as verano (summer), though this seasonal variation is really only evident on the Pacific side of the mountains. On the Caribbean side, rainfall is spread more evenly throughout the year. Though heavy, the rainstorms during the May-December rainy season - invierno (winter) - rarely last long, and are no reason not to visit.
